Reading
Text Evidence, Character Traits
Throughout our Social Studies unit, we will use our readings to practice the reading strategy of finding evidence to support our answers within the text. We will also work on identifying character traits and supporting those with evidence using fiction, fables, fairy tales, and biographies. We will also begin our year with a fun read aloud called The Not So Jolly Roger to get us excited about all of the NC history (and pirates!) to come.
Social Studies
North Carolina Government
We will understand the development, structure, and function of the NC government and analyze the NC Constitution. We will relate our understanding of our government and the rights and responsibilities of citizens to our school and classroom rules.
Writing
The Writing Process
We will work hard on all of our writing skills this year! We will write in our Writing Journals each day and will create narrative, persuasive, and informative compositions after reviewing the steps of the writing process.
Math
Place Value
The first concept we will review and cover more deeply is place value up to hundred thousands. I will be sending home letters to families when we start new concepts and provide you with some activities you may choose to do at home.
